Northeast Ohio Golf Launches Stroke Play Series

Ty Kovach and Allen FreemanNortheast Ohio Golf is launching an individual stroke play tournament series startingin 2016, to be run by Ty Kovach of Medina and Allen Freeman of Brecksville.

The Northeast Ohio Golf Tournament Series will fill open dates on the region’s Tournament Calendar, with events played monthly at the golf courses that support NEOHgolf.com as its sponsors.

Northeast Ohio Golf logoThere will be one division contested at scratch at each event, with players competing from age-appropriate tees within each Division: an Amateur Division, with competitors ages 18-54 playing from the back tees, ages 55-64 playing from the middle tees, and age 65+ playing from the front tees.

There are NO yearly membership fees for the Series. The all-in entry fee per event for an Amateur will be $100 per player, CASH ONLY paid at event check-in. This entry fee covers 18 holes of golf with cart at a reduced rate. $20 will go into the big skins pot from this entry fee. An event management fee of $5 per player will be deducted. Then the remaining balance of each event entry fee collected — usually about $40 per am depending upon on the cost of the greens fees — will be added to the pot to be distributed as prizes to the top 25% of finishers in each Division. Payouts will be made in gift certificates or cash, at the player’s choice.

The inaugural event will be held at Fox Den Golf Course in Stow on Sunday, April 17th, with starting times beginning at 12 noon.

The second event of the 2016 series will be played at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown on Sunday, May 22nd, also with a 12 noon start.

Additional events will be scheduled for Sunday, June 5th and Sunday July 10th, with the host golf course for each to be announced in the weeks ahead. There will be no event scheduled in August because the Tournament Calendar is full. September and October events are likely, with dates and courses to be determined.

“There are not many opportunities to play individual stroke play in the region right now,” says co-director Ty Kovach, “especially one-day medal events. Our series will be fun, well-run and competitive. We’re excited to get going.”

“Keeping the Amateurs of every age in one division and the Pros in another division — with both using staggered tee locations by age — maximizes the competition and the prize amounts,” co-director Allen Freeman noted. “Plus having a single skins pot with carry-over potential will be a great draw for players.”
