Aaron Crewse of Cuyahoga Falls made his first visit to Valleaire Golf Club in Hinckley a successful one.
Having never played the course, he posted a make-it-look-easy 3-under par score of 69 to win the Northeast Ohio Golf Stroke Play Event #3 by two shots.
Crewse made four birdies against a single bogey to outpace Aurora’s Fred Miller, who shot 1-under par 71 and finished in second place for the second time this season. Even at 61 years old, Miller is showing players of any age how to get it done.
Another shot back at even par 72 were Dan Predovic, Tony Briggs and another senior player, Jim Cea.
The forty players who braved the rain on their drive over to the golf course were rewarded with a completely dry — and eventually sunny — round of golf. The greens were a bit on the slow side from the rain, but the improvements made to the course and clubhouse were apparent.
And if any doubt existed about the idea of a shotgun start being great for tournament golf, it was erased: the first groups came off the golf course in brisk 3 hours and 45 minutes, and the “slow-pokes” took just 4:05. No group waited on any hole. The pace of play was glorious.
Continuing that shotgun start format, the next event for the Northeast Ohio Golf Tournament Series will be on Sunday, July 10th at 2p at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Canton. This former home to the Ohio Open is in great condition, and a huge field is expected…
