SCAGA Making Changes for 2011

Stark County Amateur Golf AssociationThe Stark County Amateur Golf Association has made several user-friendly changes over the last few years. The biggest change has been the elimination of any membership fee to play in our events: each player pays the tournament entry fee, an optional skins game fee, and the golf course greens/cart fee (most of which have been discounted for our players) — and that’s it!

And there are some additional changes being made to SCAGA in 2011 that will benefit our players further.

In the last two seasons SCAGA has seen a drastic decrease in the participation of our B class, so we have eliminated that division for 2011.  We will have our AA (players with a 4 handicap or less) and A classes (players with a 5 handicap and up), and NEW for 2011 we will have an OPEN SENIORS Division.  Open Seniors will be an age 50 and above bracket. (For those that were in the B class, you can play in the A Division or the Open Seniors if you meet the age requirement.)

Another change for 2011 will be that the Stark County Amateur Golf Association will limit all of its events to amateurs only. A few pros have played in our 2-man events in recent years, and the teams with pros have won at a greater percentage than the am-only teams. So as an organization, we decided to refocus our mission. SCAGA exists to run tournaments for amateur golfers, so the SCAGA Board has decided that only amateur teams will be permitted to enter our 2-man events going forward. We hope this brings in some additional amateur teams who may not have entered in the past because they didn’t want to compete against professionals.

All amateur players are welcome to play in our events. There is no residency requirement. We have players from all over Ohio and we’ve even had a family come play all the way from Switzerland! There are no residency restrictions and you don’t have to live here in Stark County to play.

Also NEW for this year, our Stark County Amateur will be among the events scored for the ADGA’s Golfer of the Year event, a 3-day tournament played at Firestone’s West, North and South courses on Sept. 30 – Oct. 2.

And to continue generating new tournament players for SCAGA and all of golf in Northeast Ohio, any ‘junior’ player under the age of 18 is only required to pay a $15 entry fee (instead of $35).
