RESULTS: 2024 CMG Bill Barbour Cup

Colin Burns of Lakewood + Ryan Wirtz of Strongsville won the 2024 edition of the Cleveland Metroparks Bill Barbour Cup, a jumble format 2-player tournament featuring six holes each of scramble, better ball and alternate shot.

Burns and Wirtz went 4-under par in the scramble segment after making an eagle at the par-5 first hole, then went 1-under par in better ball with a birdie on the 10th, and finished at even par in alternate shot after making a birdie at 14 and a bogey at 15.

Their 5-under par 66 total was good enough to best Shaun Kloetzer + Allen Freeman by one shot. Fairlawn’s Kloetzer and Brecksville’s Freeman went bogey-free on the day but failed to birdie the par-5 fourth in the scramble segment, which proved costly. They managed a 2-under par alternate shot segment at the end, which was the best of the field.

Three teams finished in a tie for third place at 2-under par total: Brian Kukoleck + David Sotka jumped out with a 5-under par scramble segment but gave back one in better ball and two in alternate; Nate Matthews + Wyatt Suntala went -2 +1 -1 that included a birdie at the 18th; and defending champions Adam Frey + Matthew Mullen went -3 in scramble, even in better ball, but made a bogey at 16 in alternate to finish that segment +1.

The Barbour Cup is the final event of the 2024 Cleveland Metroparks Golf season. Watch for a final update of the 2024 CMG Player of the Year standings in the days ahead…
