The fourth nine holes at Seneca Golf Course in Broadview Heights are now closed for about two years, as a brand new grass and mat tee driving range and a reconfigured golf course are in the works for 2025 and 2026.
In the next few days, bulldozers will break ground on the area behind the putting green and across the first fairway of what was previously called the “A” Back Nine at Seneca to begin shaping this new range.
The practice range will feature target greens surrounded by bunkers, a large grass tee area, and a concrete strip with high-quality turf mats at the back for use when the grass areas are wet or need a grow break.
The intent is to complete the range construction in the spring and seed it for a mid-summer 2025 grand opening.
Since this new practice range takes over the first hole of the “A” Back Nine, that 9-hole course will be reconfigured significantly as phase two of the project. The routing will change, including altering some of the hole corridors. The goal is to open these brand-new nine holes in the summer of 2026, with only 27 holes open for play at Seneca until then.
The Cleveland Metroparks Board approved the work in their October meeting. Cleveland Metroparks Director of Golf Operations Dave Donner will oversee the project and has indicated that some of the details about construction are still to be determined.
“Cleveland Metroparks is committed to strategically enhancing Seneca Golf Course with the renovation of the fourth nine holes currently underway,” said Donner. “Plans will evolve throughout the construction process, and we look forward to having 36 holes and a new driving range for the Cleveland Metroparks golf community soon.”
