RESULTS: 2018 ADGA Stroke Play

Usually, when a player in a scratch tournament makes a bogey on a par-5, a double-bogey on a par-3 and a quadruple-bogey on a par-4, that player finishes well back in the pack.

But not when that player is Jimmy Wild.

Wild offset his three bad holes with a whopping seven birdies at Chippewa Golf Club — two of which were good for skins — to win the Championship Division of the 2018 Akron District Golf Association’s Stroke Play Tournament on Saturday.

On a blustery day with random bursts of rain showers every hour or so, Wild roller-coastered his way to a final score of even par 71 to nip three players by a single shot. Aaron Crewse, Chris Okeson and Brian Smith all posted 1-over par 72 in tricky conditions to finish T2. Another shot back of that trio was Tyler Watkins and Jon Lieser in T5 place at 73.

In the Senior Division, it was a good old-fashioned blow-out. Aurora’s Larry Lahnan posted a 2-under par 69 to win by a whopping 5 shots over David Trier at 74.

Chippewa’s white tees were set further up than normal, especially when compared to the Championship Division’s blue tees which were two steps from the very back of every tee box. Lahnan took advantage of the Senior setup by driving it down the middle, hitting it close over and over again, then making the putts he needed to put away the title.

The next event on the 2018 schedule is the ADGA Lazor 2-Man Better Ball at Barberton Brookside Golf Course on Saturday, July 7th.
