With just nine teams in the Championship Division and seven in the Senior Division, the Akron District Golf Association decided to add some drama and play “winner take all” for the 2018 ADGA 4-Man Scramble at Ellsworth Meadows Golf Course in Hudson on Saturday.
The team of Mike Armour, Ty Kovach, Allen Freeman and Jeff Mallette (pictured) used three eagles against three pars to shoot 18-under par 53 and nip the team of Howard Clendenin, Steve Blackburn Jr., Dave Sotka and Nick Anagnost by a single shot.
One of Team Armour’s eagles, a fortunate bounce-it-over-the-creek second shot at the par-5 fifth hole, made the difference as it earned the team a skin. They shared the Championship Skins pot with Joe Nemeth, Dave Oates, Dan Marr and Rob Wakeling, who made a great birdie at the long, uphill par-3 12th hole.
In the Senior Divison, the team of Larry Lahnan, Fred Miller, Brian Huntley and Mark Guadagni won going away, posting a solid three shot victory at 17-under par 54. The winners also netted four of the ten ‘least-tied’ skins won on the day.
The next event on the 2018 schedule is the ADGA Stroke Play at Chippewa Golf Club on Saturday, June 23rd.
