Playing together in the same group, the team of Bill Speirs and Mike Dota battled with Chris Okeson and Ryan Prickette all day at the Manakiki Spring 2-Player Scramble on Sunday.
The final two holes were a flat-out roller-coaster.
Playing ham-n-egg golf, Speirs and Dota led by a shot standing on the 17th tee at 8-under par. But they both pulled their tee shots left behind some trees, then only managed to get a second shot short of the green. From the fairway, Okeson stuffed his iron shot to 8 feet, then Prickette canned the birdie putt. When Speirs and Dota failed to get up-and-down, they suddenly trailed by one after leading all day long.
On the 18th, both teams hit the fairway and green and had longish birdie putts. Okeson and Prickette both ghosted the edges from 20 feet, but neither dropped. Then for what seemed like the tenth time of the day, Dota drained their team’s birdie from 15 feet to tie for the win!
The next event on the Cleveland Metroparks Golf schedule is the Shawnee Spring Stroke Play at Shawnee Hills Golf Course on Sunday, May 15th.
