Chris Okeson and Doug Barber played a strong final nine holes at Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links on Saturday and came out on top in the Akron District Golf Association’s Parke H. Thornton 2-Player Better Ball.
Even though the weather was spectacular and Turkeyfoot was in perfect condition throughout, the firm and fast greens and tough hole locations kept the scoring in check.
The Cleveland-area pair shot a four-under par 67 to win by a single shot over ADGA veteran Dan Marr and 2014 Golfer of the Year Tournament winner Bobby Spino.
Norton Brick (pictured putting at the 18th green above) and Monty Guest paired to win the Senior Division of the event, also shooting a score of 67. But their combined effort was good for a whopping four shot victory over the rest of the senior field.
But the talk of the event was the spectacular hole-in-one made on the par-4 10th hole by Tom Ream.
The hole played a mere 270 yards, but the hole location was cut on the right behind the huge front bunker and on the down slope that runs away from the fairway.
Ream poked a driver directly at the flag, the ball bounced right in front of that bunker, bounced over onto the top fringe, then ran down the slope directly into the hole. Crazy stuff.
Gift certificate prizes shown below will be available later this week at sponsoring Foxy Golf, located adjacent to the east side of Turkeyfoot Golf Links.
Next Saturday, Turkeyfoot hosts its annual Turkeyfoot 2-Player Spring Scramble. Given how great the conditions are at the golf course, another big field is expected.
The next event on the ADGA schedule is the Golf Galaxy 4-M Scramble at Fox Den Golf Course on Sunday, May 24th.
