Given the day-long weather conditions, 16-under par was a solid score.
Akron District Golf Association veterans Danny Marr, Bobby Spino and Dr. Jeff Mallette overcame a steady rain on Saturday to win the 2013 ADGA Bud Light 3-Man Shamble at Chippewa Golf Club in Doylestown, shooting 16-under par 126.
The shamble format allows a team to pick the best tee shot on each hole, then players hole their own ball from there. Two scores of the three count for the team score.
The Marr/Spino/Mallette trio won by a single shot over the youngster favorites heading into the event, Quinn Parker (2013 Ungvary Champ), Nathan Tarter (2013 Ohio Publinx Champ) and Tyler Light (2013 Ohio Open Low Am).
Those two teams finished five and four shots clear of the next best score, 11-under par 131.
With the win, Marr pads his lead even further in the ADGA Golfer of the Year points race, while Spino jumps into the mix as well now holding down the fourth place position.
On the Senior side, Fred Miller, Brian Huntley and Larry Lahnan (shown left) also won by a single shot, but they did it while clearing half of the skins pot as well.
They nipped Mark Thomas, Doug Rockich and Mark Borlin for the victory.
A heartfelt thank you to Tournament Director Dave Chapple, who put in a full day’s work despite not feeling his best while covering for ADGA Commissioner Tim Davis while he recovers from his own health issue. Kudos to Larry Zimmerman for stepping in to help out as well.
The next event on the 2013 ADGA schedule is the Dave Towell Cadillac Shoot Out at the Raymond C. Firestone Golf Course in Akron on Sunday, Aug 18th. All tournament winners this year will compete in the Shoot Out, which will be proceeded by an open skins game. Additional details coming soon…
