The nine golf courses at the Cleveland Metroparks will host a variety of great events this season, from highly competitive to lots of fun.
The Cleveland Metroparks Player of the Year Series offers a variety of competitive formats open to any amateur golfer. These events are always contested at scratch.
The season-opening tournament will be the third installment of the multi-day Match Play Championship, contested at Shawnee Hills in Bedford Heights. A field of thirty-two players will compete in up to five rounds in a bracket-style format over a busy weekend.
Shortly after that, in May, two-player teams will compete in a pair of events at our premier Metroparks courses: a scramble at Manakiki and a better ball at Sleepy Hollow.
Cleveland Metroparks Golf will again host the Greater Cleveland Junior Amateur Championship at the recently renovated Seneca Golf Course in Broadview Heights. The Junior Am is open to any golfer 18 years of age or younger, with separate boys and girls divisions.
The final event in June will be the popular two-day, 36-hole Senior Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship, held at Big Met. This year, we’ve expanded the size of the field due to high demand. Once again, we will award an overall championship trophy and note three separate age division winners.
Moving into the heat of the summer, the competitions heat up as well. Over five weekends, the Cleveland Metroparks will host six Course Championships, including one at Ironwood for the first time ever in 2025. Each 36-hole, two-day Course Championship is a gateway to the invite-only Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship held in August.
Also new for 2025, we will split the 3-day Cleveland Am between our two premier golf courses. Manakiki will host the championship on Friday and Sunday, while Saturday’s round will be played at Sleepy Hollow. We hope this gives those who qualify for the GCAC a bit of variety while allowing the best player to top the leaderboard.
The popular Women’s Greater Cleveland Amateur will again be played at Manakiki Golf Course, showcasing some of the best female golf talent in the area.
Finally, the Player of the Year Series wraps up in the Fall with the Seneca Stableford and the Bill Barbour Cup at Sleepy Hollow.
In addition to our competitive events, Cleveland Metroparks offers numerous Family Golf events, including Moonlight Golf on multiple dates at various golf locations. These after-hours golf events tee off at sundown and allow participants to play the courses in a unique way. With the course flooded with neon lights, lit-up flagsticks, and glow balls in play, golfers young and old will have many laughs and a great time.
Other Family Fun events include a parent/child team event and our Superintendent’s Revenge.
2025 is the centennial celebration of our Little Met Golf Course, Cleveland Metroparks’ original golf course. We will host a 1925-themed golf event in May, followed by a special Moonlight Golf event in August. Both events will include food and beverages, special giveaways, and a grand celebration of what was originally called Golf Course #2.
