The Cleveland Metroparks Golf (CMG) tournament schedule adds a pair of new events in 2022 while expanding the formats that earn golfers a coveted spot in an expanded Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship.
To start, let’s highlight those two new events on the 2022 CMG schedule.
New for 2022
First, we will be bringing back the Women’s Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship in 2022. This event will be a one day, 18-hole tournament held at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills on Saturday, August 20. We will be reaching out to all college golf programs in the Northern Ohio area to draw the best players in the region. We will also contact all area courses to invite women’s club champions, too.
The second new event is the Junior Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship at Seneca Golf Course in Broadview Heights on Wednesday, June 15th. It’s our intent to build this event into one of the finest junior championships in the area. If you are the parent, relative or friend of a competitive junior golfer under the age of 19, please encourage them to participate!
Player of the Year Season
The first event in the race for the 2022 Cleveland Metroparks Golf Player of the Year kicks off on Saturday, May 7th. We lead with an Individual Stroke Play Tournament at Shawnee Hills.
The next event will be a Two-Player Scramble at Manakiki, on Saturday, May 21st, followed by the Junior/Senior Better Ball at Sleepy Hollow on June 25.
Cleveland Amateur Championships
Then our “Championship Season” kicks off.
It starts with the 36-hole Senior Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship at Big Met Golf Course in Fairview Park on Wednesday and Thursday, June 29 and 30.
Then we make a big format change for 2022 with all our Course Championships. We are back to conducting two-day, 36-hole stroke play events — and a Course Championship is returning to Big Met! As always, our five Course Championships in July at Big Met, Manakiki, Sleepy Hollow, Seneca and Shawnee Hills will serve as the qualifying tournaments for the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship.
The second big format change for 2022 is that the Cleveland Am itself will return to a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, three-day, 54-hole championship event. All players will play Friday and Saturday, with a cut made after the Saturday round. The GCAC will be held at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Brecksville on August 12 – 14. Once again, it will be a World Amateur Golf Ranking event.
In addition to filling the field with the qualifying players from the five Course Championships, exemptions into the 2022 Cleveland Am will be awarded once again under a variety of categories. This is another way to reward players who have both played well and been loyal to our tournament series over the years. Details to follow.
Fall Finish
The 2022 CMG tournament season will finish out with our fall events, the Stableford at Seneca followed by the long-running two-player Bill Barbour Cup at Sleepy Hollow.
