The Akron District Golf Association plans to simplify and improve its tournament series in 2018.
First, on the administrative side, we have decided on a reduced-but-required membership fee of $35 for the 2018 season (down from $50), payable at the first tournament of the year for each player.
We have also decided to make the per-player entry fee the same amount for every event.
So at the first tournament a player appears, an event entry fee of $105 (covers greens fees + cart and all optional pots and skins games) plus the season-long $35 membership fee will be collected.
Then all event entries after that will be $105 per player for every tournament, all-in.
This change will make the tournament check-in easier on my assistant Kristin and myself throughout the season.
For the 2018 ADGA schedule, we have made a few tweaks. First, we have decided to shorten the Medal Play event from two-day 36-holes to 18 holes in one day. We hope this change will improve participation in this event.
We have also chosen some different sites for some of our events in 2018, to change up courses/formats and to give a different competitive look to our players. For example:
– the 4-M Scramble goes to Ellsworth Meadows (pictured above) on Sat, May 26th;
– the Stroke Play Tournament goes to Chippewa on Sat, June 23rd;
– the Lazor 2-M Better Ball heads to Barberton Brookside on Sat, July 7th;
– the Bud Light 3-M Shamble goes to Seven Hills on Sat, July 21st;
– and the Pindy Wagner 2-M Scramble will be played at Fox Den on Sat, Aug 18th.
Soon, we will announce the site for the season-ending 2018 Golfer of the Year Tournament too, so stay tuned.
I hope everyone had a good winter and that you are looking forward to the 2018 ADGA season-opening Parke H. Thornton 2-M Better Ball at Turkeyfoot on Saturday, May 5th. Get your entries in now and get ready to play…
