Dr. Jeff Mallette of Canton was one of three players to qualify Monday for the U.S. Senior Open Championship at Scioto Country Club, which was both the site of the qualifier on Monday and will be the site of the championship proper August 11-14th.
117 players competed for three spots at the qualifier. Mallette posted a score of 1-over par score of 71 in the morning wave, on a golf course set up for a Senior Open Championship with thick rough and tough hole locations.
The two other players who qualified are professional golfers with long resumes: Lance Ten Broeck of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, a former tour player and current PGA Tour caddie who has played in four U.S. Senior Opens; and former Ohio State golfer and Champions Tour winner Rod Spittle of Dunedin, FL.
