Scott Abercrombie backed up his co-leading first round 70 with a second round 73, and was the only player to finish under par in the 2023 Senior Greater Cleveland Amateur Championship conducted by Cleveland Metroparks Golf.
The hole locations were cut into challenging locations on the greens at Big Met on both days, leading to higher scores for the field than in past years. But Abercrombie managed the difficulty better than anyone and came away as the champion, as well as the low scorer in the 50-59 Age Division.
Former champion Mike Beres finished in a tie for second place with another former champ, Allen Freeman, as both players finished at 1-over par 145. Beres finished in the top spot in the 60-69 Age Division.
73-year old Mike Brady led the way in the 70+ Age Division, posting solid rounds of 73-74 from the same tees as the other two age groups. Brady finished T6 overall in the tournament.
