The inaugural Greater Cleveland Match play Championship concluded today at the Cleveland Metroparks Shawnee Hills Golf Course in Beford Height. A lot of great golf was played this weekend in this exciting format.
Eric Wonkovich, Michael Witmer, Andrew Malkus, and Jeremy Olsen were the players still standing after Saturday’s Quarter Finals round.
The rough was thick and the greens were firm, making for some great semi-final matches. Eric Wonkovich and Andrew Malkus each won their respected semi-final match to move on to Sunday’s finals.
In the finals match, Eric played some great golf on the front nine, moving to 4-up at the turn. Andrew kept the pressure on but in the end it was not enough. Eric finished the match with a par on the 15th hole to win the match and the championship.
