The 2018 Big Met Course Championship proved to be more challenging to players than in years past. Difficult pin placements in Round 1 required players to take great care around the greens while strategy determined the amount of risk to take from the fairways.
Andrew Johnson started strong scoring a 72 to take the lead after day 1, but with his soon be nuptials on the horizon Johnson’s focus fell behind during round 2.
Two Big Met Course Champions from year’s past closed Round 2 with yet another tie for first place (the second this week at Big Met, i.e. the Senior GCAC). Jack Garswood scored a 74-72=146 to tie with Brian Smith at 76-70=146. With a slight wind kicking up and chilly mist moving in, the two headed to the first hole what ended up as a three hole playoff.
Garswood’s par 4 after a massive drive on the third hole earned the win over Smith.
Mathew Kreider finished third at 73-74=147, while Dylan Dewitt finished fourth, shooting a respectable 73-75=148.
