A familiar scramble team from Cleveland’s eastern suburbs won the Akron District Golf Association event at Oak Knolls.
Dave Sotka of Chardon and Nick ‘Niko’ Anagnost from Cleveland paired together on Sunday at the 2016 Pindy Wagner 2-Man Scramble to shoot 10-under par 62, winning by a single shot.
They edged out the team of Bobby Spino and Shayne Bishop, and the always tough Mike Simpson and Jim Krivanek, both of whom shot 63.
Sotka and Anagnost frequently play together in Cleveland Metroparks Golf team events, plus in spring and fall scrambles all over Northeast Ohio. They are both regular competitors in the Greater Cleveland Skins Game, too.
Simpson and Krivanek boosted their day’s T2 take when they nabbed one of the three skins won, making eagle on the par-4 fourth hole.
The team of Joe Trice and Brad Trice also earned a skin when they notched a hole-in-one at the 140-yard par-3 11th. (Cheers!)
In the Senior Division, Aurora’s Fred Miller teamed with Solon’s Mark Borlin to win by a whopping four shots, posting a sizzling 11-under par 61. They also won the only skin of the day in the Senior Division, making their clean-up complete.
The Pindy is the ADGA’s final regular season event of 2016. The last of the points will be tallied in the next few days, then invitations will be sent in the coming weeks to the top 24 players in each division for the Golfer of the Year Tournament at beautiful Shady Hollow Country Club in Massillon September 17 – 18th…
