Dave Sotka and Steve Blackburn Jr. played solid golf throughout a very long day, and just well enough to beat out three teams by a single shot in the 2012 Barbour Cup ‘jumble’ tournament at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Brecksville on Saturday.
In cool, windy and wet conditions, the pair fired 2-under par in the better ball format on the front side, 2-under par in the scramble on the back nine, and even par in the modified alternate shot on the front (where both players hit tee shots on every hole then the best was selected from there).
Sotka and Blackburn Jr. clipped 2011 ‘Fall Triple Crown’ winner Derek Duda and partner Doug Barber (the event’s defending champions), past Sleepy Hollow course champs Allen Freeman and Ryan Stefanski, and NOGA Player of the Year winners Brian Smith and Norton Brick by just one shot after all that golf.
33 teams competed in this annual 2-Player, 27-Hole Jumble format tournament. Complete results below. Ties were broken by scorecard playoff as listed below. Par 106: Better Ball Par 35, Scramble Par 36, Modified Alternate Par 35.
The final event of the 2012 Cleveland Metroparks Golf season will be the Tour Championship next week Saturday at Manakiki Golf Course in Willoughby Hills, an individual stroke play event. That event will also determine the CMG Player of the Year!
Steve Blackburn Jr. has the opportunity to match Derek Duda’s ‘Fall Triple Crown’ feat from last season if he can win at Manakiki next weekend. Junior paired with Stefanski to win last weekend at the Big Met 2-Man, and with Sotka in this week’s Barbour Cup. Just another story line to watch…
