Dave Chapple Passes

Longtime Akron District Golf Association executive and one of Northeast Ohio golf’s most giving and well-loved figures, Dave Chapple, passed away late last night after a long battle with cancer.

Chapple has been a mainstay in helping promote the game and presenting it publicly through his scoreboard work for years.

Along with Tim Davis, he has been the face of the ADGA, acting as Tournment Director for decades.

Chappy, you have always been ‘the man’. You will be greatly missed…

 

OBITUARY:

Following many valiant battles, David Lee Chapple “Chappy” lost his war against cancer of July 4, 2015. His courage and strength of character in facing this challenge will forever set the standard of excellence for which we should strive.

Dave was born on March 12, 1945 in Alliance, Ohio. He graduated from Alliance High School in 1963 and Kent State in 1970. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, past member of American Cancer Society , and active participant in Ohio PGA, Akron Golf District Golf Assoc., Northeast Ohio Golf Assoc., and the U.S. PGA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul W. and Anna Mary (Buttermore) Chapple; grandparents; and an infant brother, John.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Lori (Scott) McClenny; son, David Jr. (Jennifer); brother, James W. Chapple; grandson, Dylan McClenny; father-in-law, Donald E. Morehead; sister-in-law, Vicki (Brian) Packey; Karen (Karl) Wagnitz; niece, Jennifer Packey; nephews, Josh (Teresa) Packey, Josh Chapple, Jeff Wagnitz; special friends, Linda Parmer, Mike Greene, Nicholas Niland and special girls Kerrianna and A’liayanah.

Special thanks to the staff of the Cooper Cancer Center, Infusion Center, Radiology, Chemotherapy, Oncology Departments, Summa Palliative Care, Summa Home Hospice and especially Dr. Mehool Patel, Dr. Desai, the nurses, so many, and so caring, Lisa, Beth, Sharon and all the staff at the Summa Facilities where we interacted.

He fought the fight; He did “not go gentle into that good night but raged against the dying of the light.” Your life was full of loving deeds, forever thoughtful of everyone’s needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole lives through we will cherish and honor the spirit of you.

Friends will be received on Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 E. Exchange St., Akron, Ohio.

Funeral service will be on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Western Reserve Christian Church, 516 West Streetsboro St., Hudson, Ohio.
