2014 PREVIEW: Stark County Amateur Golf Association

Dustin Alcorn, SCAGA Tournament Director
Dustin Alcorn
In 2014, SCAGA is trying new things. First, SCAGA is adding more team events! We are also working to get Foxy Golf as our merchandise outlet for gift cards.

For the last 5 plus years, SCAGA has always kicked off the tournaments in the surrounding area with the 2 man Scramble. This year Skyland Pines is hosting that season-starting event on Saturday April 19th.

Stark County Amateur Golf AssociationNext is where the fun and new events start. To my knowledge, SCAGA has done a Jumble one other time. That being said, we are trying it again but with a twist: we are adding a cash pot to the event. The Fairways of North Canton will be hosting this event on Saturday May 31st. The reason we chose the Fairways was for the fact that it kind of sets up perfect for the format. It’s a fun, quirky course with drivable par 4s and other risk reward holes like 11, 16, and 17 to name a few. Each set of six holes will offer something different and strategy.

The next event will be held at The Sanctuary on Saturday June 21st. Also, a SCAGA first (to my knowledge) an Open (to amateurs) 4 man Scramble. As most know SCAGA has classes, this event however will not that is why it’s an Open event. Pick 3 other guys and sign up.

Last but importantly not least the 82nd Stark County Amateur. This year we are proud to announce that Day 1 of the event will be held at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance on Saturday July 19th and Round 2 will be held at The Elms Country Club just 2 days after the Tiger Town Open on Sunday July 20th. SCAGA has not been to Tannenhauf in years and they were very excited to get the call from us. The Elms will be coming off the Tiger Town Open which will be held Friday the 18th so the greens will be perfect as they always are.

Based on feedback we get throughout the year an event in August is TBD. We’re leaving that up to the players and whether or not you are interested in an event.

The 2014 SCAGA Board consists of myself, Dustin Alcorn as Tournament Director, Dan Cole (web design/marketing), Jeff Barbas, and Dave Oates.

I can’t wait to see everyone and play some golf the cold and snow have got to go! Our website is www.scagagolf.org that is how you register for the events. Any questions you can contact me at dalcorn@scagagolf.org or Dan Cole at dcole@scagagolf.org.

Thank you again everyone for playing in SCAGA!
