Steve Blackburn Jr. Captures 2013 Shoot-out and Sets Scoring Record

Steve Blackburn Jr 2013 Shoot-out ChampionIn record fashion, Steve Blackburn Jr. of Willowick captured the Greater Cleveland Shoot-Out Tournament at Chardon Lakes on Labor Day.

Blackburn Jr. shot a sizzling 69, which is just two shots off the course record set by Jack Nicklaus in 1971.

He was 1-over par on the front nine but made four birdies on the back, shooting nines of 36-33.

Blackburn Jr. took home $750 for his efforts.

Chardon hometown favorite Dave Sotka came in 2nd place with a 73 that earned him $400.

Tied for third at 74 were Pat Tyrrell of Willoughby and Rob Schustrich of Windham, good for $195 each.

Brian Perkins and Steve Blackburn Sr. each shot 76, good for 5th place and $35 each.

The Greater Cleveland Shoot-out was originated by Fairway Pines Golf Course owner Ed Tresger of and continues today with local sponsorship funds. Blonde John Ticket Sales sponsored this year’s event to help generate a $1,660 purse for participants of the Greater Cleveland Skins Game.
