Compete in enough skins games and a player comes to realize that while great golf has a better likelihood of being rewarded, sometimes it just comes down to blind luck and the loving hands of the golf gods.
Week 8 in the Greater Cleveland Skins Game definitely went toward the latter.
Every hole on the back nine at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chardon was birdied at least twice except for one: the simple 510-yard par-5 11th hole. Only one birdie was made there by Mark White, and he claimed the entire skins game pot of $460, just for making a routine birdie in a field of 20 players.
The solo skin winner, the third solo skin haul of the season, jumped White into third place on the Skins Game Leaderboard.
Pin shots were won by Steve Blackburn Jr. on the 15th hole, good for $60, and the Mulligan’s Pin Shot was taken by Nick Anagnost on the 17th for $80.
Next week Thursday is the first Double-Down event of the season at Aurora Country Club starting at 5:30 p.m. The entry fee amount is double, $60 plus greens fees, for this event. Players are only eligible to compete if they’ve played in at least two Skins Game events this season.
