2012 Greater Cleveland Skins Game: Week 25 Results

With only one more week left in the season, Steve Blackburn Jr. extended his season-long lead on the Greater Cleveland Skins Game field at critical time of the year.

The question now: is a $400+ lead going into the year’s final event (with double-stakes!) enough to win the Thompson Cup?

It was a beautiful autumn evening at Sleepy Hollow Golf Course in Brecksville, with the colors of the trees changing and the birdies still flying. Four skins were won on the night.

Mark Borlin started things out with a great 30-foot birdie putt from off the fringe on the tough 470-yard par-four 11th hole.

Then Blackburn Jr. went to work. He grabbed the pin shot on the 132-yard par-three 12th hole with a shot to about 15 feet, which was worth $84, and then made the putt for a nice double-dip on the hole for a skin.

First time player Chris Davis from Cleveland then added a birdie on the 380-yard par four 16th hole good for a skin.

And Allen Freeman of Brecksville cashed in with a birdie on the short par-four 17th hole to finish the skins tally.

Skins were worth $69 each.

The Greater Cleveland Skins Game heads to Powderhorn Golf Course in Madison for the final night next Thursday starting at 4pm. The stakes are “doubled” for the evening, and the presentation of the Thompson Cup to the winner will be held with the traditional champagne toast. The winner of the Mulligans Cup will also be decided.

With the stakes doubled, players are reminded they must have competed in 6 or more events to be eligible for next week’s final night.

On a personal note, I look forward to seeing all the season long competitors next week at Powderhorn, as it has been a long season and this is an opportunity to pay respect to the winner of the Thompson Cup. Players will tee off in order of their standings on the Leaderboard, with the leaders teeing off last. Good luck to everyone!
