Twenty players had high hopes at the start of Thursday’s “Double Down” event at Aurora Country Club, where the event’s entry fee is doubled for the night to $60 per man.
But only four players left with smiles on their faces: three big skins winners and one huge pin shot winner.
Phil Bojc was a happy man when he canned a 15-foot putt for birdie on the par-4 second hole to capture the first skin of the evening — and his first skin of the year! — to take home $306.66.
Joey DiDonato then made the only birdie on the par-4 7th hole to take home a skin.
It was then Mark Julius’s turn as he made a great birdie on the difficult 430 yard par-4 8th hole. With his skin, Julius cracks the four-figure mark on the year and moves into second place on the leaderboard just $234 behind the present leader Eddie Neer, who did not cash on the night.
Since there is only one par-3 hole on the front nine at Aurora CC, the 130-yard 3rd attracted a lot of attention as the pin shot there was worth a cool $280. Rob Skebe hit the big shot to 7-feet to take home the loot for the only pin shot on the evening.
Next week, the Skins Game moves to Tanglewood National in Bainbridge at a great $15 greens fee with cart rate, starting at the earlier time of 4:30 p.m.
Also remember that players who have participated in five or more weekly skins game events have until September 3rd to get their entry in for the 2010 Greater Cleveland Shoot-Out, which will take place on Labor Day Monday, September 6th at Chardon Lakes Golf Club.
