It was a beautiful night for skins game golf at Powderhorn in Madison on Thursday.
And under firm and fast conditions, a number of skins were won — and a back-to-back Thompson Cup winner drew ever so closer to the season-long leader.
Carl Quercioli opened up the skins scoring by hitting a six iron into the long par-4 first hole then canning an 18-foot putt for a birdie winner from off the fringe.
Mark Foss jumped into the mix with a great tee shot on the second hole, driving the green on the 280-yard par-4 and knocking in an 8-foot putt for eagle for the second skin of the night.
Geoff Nicely then chipped in for the only birdie on the par-4 third hole for a skin.
And Joe DiDonato holed a bunker shot on the difficult par-3 eight hole for the last skin of the evening.
Skins were worth $103.50 each.
Pin shot winners were Steve Blackburn Jr. on hole number 5 and Rob Skebe on number 8, worth $63.00 each.
Blackburn Jr.’s pin shot puts him over the $1,000 mark for the season and vaults him to second place on the leaderboard, as the chase is on for the Thompson Cup. Eddie Neer still holds the lead by $350, but Blackburn Jr. still has several weeks to try to capture his third consecutive Greater Cleveland Skins Game Championship…
Next Thursday, August 19th, the Skins Game travels to Quail Hollow’s Devlin Course, with tee times starting at 5 p.m.
