Tom Evans, a postal carrier from Perry and the 2003 Greater Cleveland Skins Game Champion, delivered more than the mail on Thursday. Evans rolled in a 20-foot birdie putt on the difficult par-3 eighth hole at Powderhorn Golf Course to capture the only skin on the night — one that turned out to be the largest skin in the 20 year history of the game!
Evans took home a whopping $552.00 and in doing so moved to the top of the leaderboard in search of his second Thompson Cup.
Pin shot winners on the night were Steve Blackburn Jr. with a tight one on the 5th hole, and Mark Julius with the pin shot on the eighth hole. The pin shots were worth $84.50 each.
Julius played in the same group as Tom Evans and lipped out his birdie putt on the eighth hole, giving Evans the entire skin pot. No birdies were recorded on holes 1, 5, and 9. Twenty four players competed on Thursday.
Next Thursday, May 6th, the Greater Cleveland Skins Game moves to the always difficult Thunder Hill Golf Club in Madison. Players can take advantage of the $15 greens fee rate, which includes the cart! Year-long schedule here.
