Mike Simpson Wins ADGA Golfer of the Year Tournament; Fred Miller Nabs Seniors

Mike Simpson 2010 ADGA Golfer of the Year Tournament — Champion Mike Simpson hits his final tee shot at the ADGA Golfer of the Year tournament.

In truly challenging weather conditions this weekend, Mike Simpson earned a one shot victory in the Akron District Golf Association’s Golfer of the Year Tournament at the West and North Courses at Firestone Country Club in Akron.

And with that victory, Simpson also won the ADGA’s 2010 Player of the Year honors.

Simpson posted a solid score of 2-under par 68 on the West Course of Firestone Country Club on a cold and rainy Saturday, then held on with a score of 3-over par 75 on the North Course on a chilly, damp Sunday.

Simpon’s 1-over par 143 total was good for a one shot win over Ross Beal, who made a big charge when he posted a sterling 1-under par score of 71 for the low round on Sunday by four shots.

In the Senior Division, Fred Miller of Aurora played steady golf for two days by staying away from big numbers, posting scores of 77 on the West and 76 on the North to win by two shots over Tommy Thompson and by three over first round leader Tim Davis.

Kudos to the ADGA’s Tim Davis and Dave Chapple for all of the work they do each year in running the tournaments of the Akron District Golf Association. The players of Summit County and all of Northeast Ohio appreciate the efforts they both put forth in staging high-quality amateur tournament golf. We look forward to the 2011 edition of the ADGA!
