Turkeyfoot Ripped by Overnight Storms

More than 50 trees were broken apart or uprooted and power lines were pulled down as a strong line of thunderstorms rolled over Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links in Akron on Tuesday night.

At Akron-Canton Airport just after midnight, wind speeds reached 67 mph.

An initial estimate of the tree work required to clear the property is close to $100,000. The power was last to the maintenance area, and the cart barn sustained damage.

The golf course will be closed until sometime mid- to late next week, as the work required to fix the damage is extensive.
