2014 Q-SCHOOL FINALS: ROUND 6 RECAP AND FINAL THOUGHTS
The 108-hole six-round golf marathon known as Q-School is over. The Final Round took place yesterday under ideal conditions.
Ryan Armour stayed consistent the entire event, shooting a final round 69 on the Nicklaus Tournament Course for a six round total of 15-under-par. Ryan easily secured his fully-exempt Web.com tour status for 2014. Congratulations to him, now get to the PGA Tour in 2015!
A six round total score of -12 was required to secure fully-exempt status on the Web.com Tour for 2014.
Justin Lower finished his week off in fine fashion with continued domination of the Nicklaus Tournament Course, posting a final round 67 (-5) and finishing -8 for the qualifying tournament.
Justin came up four shots short of exempt status, but he should get into a few events based on his good finish and his conditional status.
When asked about his Q school experience, Lower stated, “It was a grind, the Stadium Course is for real, and the pressure at Q-School is real. The experience is invaluable, too. I feel like other tournaments now won’t be as nerve racking.”
Jake Scott continued to spin his wheels for the sixth consecutive day with a final round 74 (+2) over on the Stadium Course. He finished at -1 for the tournament and was disappointed with his play this week.
“I understand now why Q-School has its reputation. Physically and emotionally I am completely drained. I want to thank all of my friends, family and sponsors who supported me throughout all phases of the qualifying process,” Jake said.
Personally, it was great experience for me to be able to caddie for Jake in Q-School. I was able to get a very interesting perspective that others will only read about. It was a wonderful to have access inside the ropes and clubhouse, and to be able to meet and get to know some of the guys that will call the PGA Tour their home in the near future.
It was my distinct privilege to be able to witness the trials and tribulations that players face throughout Q school. The emotions were widespread. Dating all the way back to the pre-qualifying stage in September for some players, most players had to navigate their way through First and Second Stage just to get to Final Stage.
Golf is a game played all over the world by millions of people. For Jake, Justin and Ryan to make it to the Finals of Web.com Q-School and to be a part of this 155-player field is a tremendous accomplishment in and of itself.
These guys are truly good.
