Senior Open Qualifying on Monday at Firestone Fazio

Some recognizable names — from nationally-known professionals to talented local amateurs — will tee it up on Monday, June 21 at Firestone Country Club’s Fazio (West) Course in a bid to qualify for the 2021 Senior Open Championship at the Old Course at Sunningdale Golf Club in Berkshire, England on July 22-25, 2021.

This marks the first time qualifying for this senior British major will be held at a site in the United States.

Hosted immediately in advance of next week’s Bridgestone Senior PLAYERS Championship at Firestone South, the qualifier is for professional and amateur players age 50 and over. Amateur entrants must have a handicap index of 0.4 or less.

124 players are in the field. Some notable professional names include Tommy Armour III, Olin Brown, Carlos Franco, Robert Gamez, Gary Hallberg, Skip Kendall, Dick Mast, Len Mattiace, Gary Nicklaus, Estaban Toledo and Omar Uresti.

Three-time Ohio Senior Open champ Bob Sowards is also competing — on the course where he won those three consecutive titles.

Regional amateurs who are entered into the qualifier include Dan Belden, Howard Clendenin, Michael Kelley, Nick Lambos, Jeff Mallette and Rob Wakeling.

No official announcement on the exact number of qualifying spots available on Monday, but expectation is for between 12-15. Watch for results from the Senior Open Firestone qualifier on this website after Monday’s event…
