Mike Sampson partnered all season long with Ryan Mikita in the Scramble Series events at The Fairways at Twin Lakes — except for one event in June.
He finished well down the list of results that month, too.
But the 20 ‘participation points’ he earned in that event put him into first place alone for the 2014 Twin Lakes Series Championship, which earned him the top prize as the leading points winner for the season.
Sampson and Mikita tied for first place in the May event, then won outright in each event for three months in a row July, August and September. Those four first place finishes sewed up the Series Championship pretty early.
Mike Simpson did close the gap in the points list by finishing solo first with partner Jim Krivanek in the November Superman, after having won the June event outright and tying for the top spot in October. But the Sampson/Mikita lead was just too big to overcome.
