The first round of a 36-hole amateur championship, The Zoar Memorial, was played Saturday afternoon at Zoar Golf Club. The players were met with a firm and fast course, but as the day progressed and storms blew in, the rains softened the conditions.
In what many are describing as the “round of the decade”, Rob Schustrich of Windham (pictured) posted a 7-under par score of 65 to take a large lead in the Senior Division. Two time defending champion Brad Baker is in second place with a 74, while John Holzapfel and Mark Thomas sit at 75.
Tim Hepner (Dover) and Steven Nutter (St. Marys WV) lead the Open Division at even par 72. Defending champion Ian Hardesty (Chardon) and Blaise Vanivelt (Flint MI) are one stroke off of the pace. John Fryman (Westerville) stands at 74.
The second round will get underway at 11 on Sunday morning.
The 2019 Honoree is John Colombo of Roswell, and In Memory of Jack Matchett.
