Round 1 of the 2018 Summit County Amateur Championship at Good Park Golf Course in Akron is in the books, and a pair of Clevelanders lead the way.
Steve Blackburn Jr. of Willowick and Ryan Stefanski from Sagamore Hills each posted 4-under par 67 to lead the field after Saturday’s play. They will share a three shot lead headed into Sunday’s final round, as both Chardon’s Dave Sotka and Stow’s Dave Trier sit next at T3 after a 1-under par 70 start.
A pair of accomplished senior players, Rick Bryson and Mark Guadagni, shot even par, joining Strongsville’s A.J. Spalding at 71.
Only one skin was won on Saturday! Jason King holed a wedge from 79 yards on the par-4 17th hole to make an eagle-2 and grab the entire $1,140 Saturday skins prize. Having shot 89 on the day, King’s accomplishment shows that any player can win a skin at any time — and that the best time to win one is at the Summit County Am.
