RESULTS: Portage Trail Conference Championship Girls High School Golf

Abbie Retherford can usually be found playing her golf with the Ravenna varsity boys team, but on Monday she played as an individual for Ravenna in the PTC Girls Championship Tournament.

Retherford demonstrated her skills as she won the tournament, firing a 39-44 83 on the fairways of Sunny Hill Golf Club in Brimfield.

Retherford topped PTC Player of the Year Ashley Kizzen of Cloverleaf who fired an 84.

It was a banner day for both Retherford of Ravenna and the Cloverleaf girls.

Coach Adam Michael, voted coach of the year by his peers, warned he might have to leave as his wife was preparing for the birth of the newest addition to the family. But Michael was able to stay through the day instead of handing the reins over to his assistant.

The Lady Colts were undefeated in the regular season and managed to hold on to their first place in the tournament, beating the Woodridge Lady Bulldogs by one stroke to earn the tourney victory and their fourth straight PTC Championship.

Gwyneth Wilde led one of the two newest teams in the PTC this season, the Field Falcons, to a sixth place finish in the tournament, earning the bronze medal with scores of 41-46 87, just three strokes shy of runner-up Kizzen.

The Southeast Lady Pirates climbed into fourth place in the tournament after finishing the regular season in a three-way tie with Norton and Garfield with records of 5-4. Alaina Goldstein led the charge of the scoreboard, carding a 94.

Streetsboro, the second addition to the PTC Girls Division this season, took eighth place and Crestwood finished in ninth place. Both the Lady Rockets Makenzie Vian and the Lady Red Devils Jessica Latine scored 109 for 18 holes.

Next up for the girls of the PTC are the Sectional Tournaments, as the golfers look toward the OHSAA Girls State Tournament.
