Jake Scott has come close to victory this year on The Medalist Tour, finishing second twice (including in a playoff at Aurora). But on Thursday at Quail Hollow Country Club, he proved he was ready to win, beating the field by an impressive four shots.
Scott’s 4-under par 67 beat Tour Director Mike Hastings and Ryan Gutowski, both of whom finished at even-par 71. Dan Rush and newcomer Jeff Bors finished tied for fourth place, another shot back at 72. The victory earned Scott $800, while Hastings and Gutowski earned $250 each, and Rush and Bors earned $100 each.
Scott hopes to carry this momentum into next week when he competes on the Bruce Devlin-designed course at The Ohio Open.
In the amateur division, Ross Beal continued his dominating play, winning his third event in five tries. His even par 71 was a shot better than newcomer Michael Shonk and Josh DeWees, and three better than Tommy Li.
One of the highlights of the day was Travis Porter’s ace on the par-3 9th hole, which earned $160 in skins and pins for him. Other skins went to Paul Kaspar, for his birdie on #1, Ethan Edwards who made eagle on the par-5 eighth hole, and Jake Scott and Dan Rush for their birdies on 14 and 15 respectfully. Each skin was worth $110. Tommy Li won the other pin shot on 11, good for $50.
