David Oates of Uniontown and Mike Simpson of Canton closed with five straight birdies to win the Zoar Spring 2-Player Scramble yesterday in Tuscarawas county.
Oates and Simpson turned in 3-under par 33 then made seven birdies in their last eight holes. Their back nine 29 blitzed the field by two and gave them a 10-under par 62 total. The pair won by one shot over three teams.
Ryan Stocke of Dublin + Sam Troyer of Clinton, Kyle Jones of Canton + Scott McVey of Louisville, and Eric Crone + Tim Hepner both from Dover all finished in a three-way tie for second place at 9-under par.
40 teams competed on a crisp spring day at Zoar. Kudos to Zoar Superintendent (and T3 finisher) Crone, as the golf course was in great shape given the recent heavy rains and local flooding.
Andrew Strope + Blake Ring-Fish of Rayland made an eagle on the second hole to share half of the skins pot with Joe Nemeth of Hudson + Robert Wakeling of Akron, who grabbed their share with an eagle on 12.
Next up on Tim Hepner’s Zoar schedule is the Zoar Memorial Championship, a two-day individual stroke play event on Saturday, May 25 – Sunday, May 26.
