RESULTS: 2024 U.S. Open Local Qualifying – Toledo

USGA / NOGAFormer Hope College alum and Division III National Champion Joshua Gibson secured the Medalist Honors for the 2024 U.S. Open Local Qualifier in Toledo. Gibson came out firing at Highland Meadows Golf Club, starting with a bogey-free front-nine 30 that included four birdies.

When asked about his performance, Gibson smiled and said, “I believe the course was in my favor today.”

As the competition heated up, Joshua found himself tied for the medalist position heading into the final hole of his round after starting the back nine even through eight. With an eagle on the final hole, he sealed a victory, adding an exclamation point to a thrilling round and securing his spot in Sectionals.

Palmer Yenrick

Palmer Yenrick, a Toledo Rockets Golf Team member, was able to fight through two bogeys on the first three holes on the back nine to secure a qualifying position. Palmer would birdie four of the last six holes of his round, which put him in a tie for second.

Michael Balcar

Joining Yenrick in a tie for second was reigning Ohio Open Champion Michael Balcar. The Toledo native posted a 4-under par 67 despite a triple-bogey on the second hole of the day. Balcar ended the day with an impressive eight birdies and an eagle on the card.

Tyler Goecke

Tyler Goecke was another of the four players who finished with a 68 on the day. Goecke’s round was full of ups and downs, with a birdie and bogey on the front. But an eagle on hole nine was a momentum boost at the turn. Goecke followed this up with two more birdies on the back to finish with a 3-under 68.

Cam Kellett

Cam Kellett of Eastern Michigan put together a solid back-9 to finish one stroke clear of a potential playoff. After an even par 37 on the front, Cam posted a 3-under 31 on the back, which included no bogeys.

Jake Kneen

Oakland University alumni Jake Kneen matched Kellett in the morning wave with a 3-under par 68. Jake birdied the final two holes on the front nine, which put him in a great position at 1-under heading to the back nine. Kneen was able to take advantage of a solid start and avoid the playoff, even after a bogey on 18.

Joeseph Juszczyk

Joseph Juszczyk rounded out the last players that finished at 3-under for the day. Juszczyk had a solid first nine, battling back after an early bogey on 2. He would proceed to add five birdies to his scorecard, landing him the final qualifying spot with a 3-under par 68.
