Nolan Marks of Canterbury Golf Club posted a 5-under 67 at Oberlin Golf Club on Monday to claim medalist honors and a spot in the 43rd U.S. Mid-Amateur at Kinloch Golf Club.
Marks did not let the hour-long weather delay slow him down, making birdie on three of his final four holes after the delay. Nolan had just one bogey on the day, posting a 5-under 32 on the back nine to secure the day’s low round.
After completing the round, the final qualifying spot came down to a two-person playoff. Josh Clay and Ben Hogan both finished their rounds at 4-under par, with Hogan making a bogey on 18 to give Clay a chance. The two would start the playoff on number 10, a short par four and the course’s easiest-rated hole. Clay hit his approach shot to three feet for a tap-in birdie, securing his spot as the second qualifier.
