Henry Phillips (Warren) shot 74-76–150 to win the Boys 16-19 division at the Sand Ridge Junior Invitational. Henry managed the course well and avoided making a double-bogey over his first 28 holes. He had two birdies and 12 pars each day. Henry finished one stroke ahead of the charging Dominik Cosic (Concord). Dominik had 75-76–151 to finish 2nd. Dominik was 7 over for the tournament after 29 holes and Henry was 4 over and 3 strokes ahead at the time. Then, Dominik birdied 12 and 13 to grab a share of the lead. On 14, Henry made birdie and was one stroke ahead. On 15 Dominik drove the 285 green and was putting for eagle from 40 feet. He three putted and they tied the hole. On 16, Dominik tried to drive the green from 305 yards, but his tee shot ended up falling short in the water. After a penalty, Dominik made a quality bogey. Henry had a tricky chip and hit a fine shot to 10 feet, but he ended up three putting for double bogey, They are tied once again. Dominik made bogey #17, which gave Henry a one stroke lead going into 18. Dominik hit two great shots to have a 12 footer for eagle. He ran his first putt by 4 feet and missed the birdie putt coming back. Henry made a solid par and won the tournament by one stroke. Ethan Olszowy (Avon) 79-73–152, also made a run at the leaders. Ethan was 11 over par after 29 holes and played the last 7 holes in three under par to finish (+8) and one stroke behind Dominik for 3rd place. Ethan’s 73 was the low round of the tournament. He had 5 birdies today and he birdied his last two holes (#17 and #18).
Jack Hecei (Avon) fired a 80-76–156 to win the Boys 15 & Under division. Jack only had 2 birdies over 36 holes, but his ball striking was outstanding. His putter wasn’t friendly to him on the greens. Jack bombed a number of drives and one of his highlights came on the 285 yard par 4, 15th hole in round one, where he landed his drive on the green and two putted for birdie. Lincoln Miller (Concord) finished 2nd with 81-77–158. Lincoln had a strong finish with birdies on #15 and #18 to shoot 37 on his final nine holes. Austin Funk (Medina) shot 81-81–162 and finished 3rd. Austin made 2 birdies on the front nine today and shot 39.
Ella Baird (Aron) shot 80-78–158 to win the Girls 19 & under division. She played solid and didn’t make double bogey or higher over 36 holes. Her best nine was the front nine of round 2, where she shot 37.
