Three teams tied at the top with a score of 8-under par 63 at the Akron District Golf Association’s Parke H. Thornton 2-Player Better Ball at Turkeyfoot Lake Golf Links in Akron on Saturday.
Jim Cea + Ron Bell of Tallmadge and Stow, Allen Freeman + Justin Trzebuckowski of Brecksville and Broadview Heights, and Tom Stack + Fred Martin both from Akron, shared the ADGA victory.
All three teams shot 4-under par 32 on the front nine, then followed up with 4-under par 31 on the back.
All three teams had the opportunity to win the tournament outright with a birdie at the par-5 last, but none managed it.
Each team won $816.67 for their three-way share.
One shot behind the co-champs were three teams that shared a tie for fourth place at 7-under par: David Trier + Jeff Mallette, Ryan Stefanski + Brian Smith (who also won a skin when Smith made an eagle on six), and ADGA Tournament Directors Kyle Jones + Jimmy Wild.
In the Skins Games, teammates Jason Cooper and Mitch Dorfman traded turns pitching in for eagle to win two of the five skins made on the day. Dorfman dunked his second on the par-4 14th hole, while Cooper ran a wedge the full length of the green after reaching the front upslope on the par-5 18th hole. A finger-point to the assembled crowd was a perfect capper. The pair collected a field-leading total of $1,232 for their efforts.
The next event on the schedule, which is open for entries, is the ADGA 3-Player Scramble at Brookledge Golf Course in Cuyahoga Falls on Saturday, May 25th.
