Jimmy Wild jarred a wedge for a hole-in-one on the par-3 sixth hole at Lake Forest Country Club to propel himself and partner Brian Smith to a three shot victory in the NOGA Four-Ball #2.
Wild followed the ace with back-to-back birdies to help the pair turn at 5-under par 31. Then Smith took over the scoring duties on the back nine, making four birdies on his own ball.
Their only blemish on the day was a bogey at the tricky par-4 11th.
“Ham-and-egged it the whole round,” said Wild. “Front nine, the hole-in-one got the juices flowing. Back nine, I fell asleep and Brian woke up.”
“We had a little adventure on 10, and trouble on 11”, said Smith. “But we made a couple birdies coming in and brought it home.”
In the Senior Division, David Trier and Dean Cutlip put together a sizzling back nine charge to race to five shot victory.
After a pedestrian 2-under par front side, each player made four birdies on his own ball on the back nine, with those birdies almost perfectly ham-and-egged for a 7-under par 29 on the inward half.
“Tag team golf,” said Trier. “Putts started going in.”
“It was pretty easy for both of us. We both played really well,” said Cutlip. When you’re playing well, it seems to be sitting there.”
The next event on the NOGA Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series schedule is the Four-Ball #3 at Toledo Country Club on Wednesday, July 19th. Entries open Wed, June 28.
