Five players shot a score of 70 (-2) at Silver Lake Golf Club on Monday, requiring a 5-for3 playoff to see who would advance to the 74th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes in Oregon.
Locals Nick Piesen of Strongsville, Connor Malicki of Avon (a recent U.S. Open Local qualifier out of Westfield) and Nicholas Gross of Downingtown, PA punched their tickets to play the Dunes and Trails Courses in Bandon. Malicki birdied the first playoff hole to quickly grab his spot. Then Gross made birdie at the third, and Piesen earned the final spot with a tap-in par at the third.
