Akron’s Jim Cea and Dean Cutlip used the jump-start of a hole-out wedge from 83 yards on the reachable par-4 fifth hole to propel them to a sizzling 12-under par 59 on Saturday at the Turkeyfoot Spring 2-Man Scramble.
Cutlip holed a blind wedge shot up the hill after both players misplayed their tee shots. They posted 7-under par 29 on the front side — with a bogey on their scorecard! — then tackled the tricky back nine with a solid 5-under par 30, good for a one shot victory.
Howard Clendenin and Steve Blackburn Jr. finished in a tie for second place with Jimmy Wild and Kyle Jones at 11-under par 60. Four teams tied for fourth place at 61, another four tied for eighth place at 62.
The pair of skins won on the day were worth a tidy $610 each: Shaun Kloetzer and Adam Arman made the only eagle on the par-5 6th hole (after Arman reached the green with a driver off the deck), while Wilson and Esper dunked a deuce on the par-4 11th hole to nab themselves a hole-out skin.
