Strong winds in the afternoon and firm conditions led to difficult playing conditions in the fifth stroke play event of the year sponsored by Club Car and Pepsi at Kirtland Country Club.
In the main division, DJ Holub blitzed the field shooting 66 (-4) and winning by five strokes over Michael Balcar who shot 71 (+1). Holub made seven birdies on the day, turning the day around after making bogey on the third hole and bouncing back with birdies on four and five. When asked about his round, Holub said that he figured out the key to the game during his round: making putts.
In the senior division, Gary Rusnak shot a round of 69 (-1) to narrowly beat out Mitch Camp who shot even par. Rusnak had four birdies on the round and maintains his place atop the Rolex Senior Player of the Year standings.
The next stop on the NOPGA is next Monday at Mayfield-Sand Ridge Club – Mayfield Campus for Stroke Play #6.
