The NOPGA Shootout took place at Lake Forest Country Club in Hudson today, with the top 26 professionals in the main division and six professionals in the senior division qualifying for the event based on NOPGA Player of the Year points.
The thirty-two players were broken into four pods, each named after a Northern Ohio PGA Hall of Famer: Byron Nelson, Henry Picard, Denny Shute, and Herman Keiser.
A blind draw took place at 1899 Golf – CLE East on Sunday night, pairing players into better-ball teams of two. Each team played a nine-hole match against the other three teams in the pod, with each hole worth one point. The team in each pod with the most points at the end of twenty-seven holes qualified for The Shootout.
The four teams who qualified for the Shootout were Drew Pierson/Jason Nussbaum (Nelson Pod), Jim Troy/Ryan Brawley (Picard Pod), Tony Adcock/Tom Waitrovich (Shute Pod), and Dan Terry/Milton Carswell (Keiser Pod).
At day’s end, the team of Dan Terry and Milton Carswell won in a playoff over Tony Adcock and Tom Waitrovich.
Dan Terry is the first three-time champion of The Shootout, while Milton wins for a second time.
