Brian Schubert (Eagle Creek Golf Club) had the round of the day at the R.A. Stranahan Stroke Play Tournament at Plum Brook Country Club in Sandusky, shooting a 3-under par 68 in beautiful conditions.
“I was able to get up and down a number of times and I actually played some good golf on the back nine and lucky to hit some shots and bring it home,” Schubert said. “It felt nice.”
Schubert had an eagle putt on 18 to move it to 4 under par but it slid just past the hole.
Ben Hogan (Oberlin Golf Club) finished with a round of 70 (-1) to finish in solo second place and Kevin Rowe (Avon Oaks Country Club) shot a 71 (E) to finish in solo third place.
In the Senior Division, Scott Winckowski (Toledo Metro Golf Association) finished as the only golfer in the division at even par or better, finishing with a round of 71 (E). He finished with three straight birdies after shooting 3-over par through the first 15 holes.
“I played good all day,” Winckowski said. “I kept it in play and that is the key out here. Hit some good shots and hit a lot of greens and told myself to keep making pars and eventually some birdies and that is what happened.”
Winckowski added “I played well last year in this event and I love the golf course. It is in great shape and it is just a lot of fun.”
Mark Borlin (Silver Lake Country Club) finished with a round of 72 (+1) for solo second place and Dean Cutlip (Firestone Country Club) and Mark Guadagni (Silver Lake Country Club) finished tied for third place with rounds of 73 (+2)
Mike Brady (Sweetbriar Golf Club) and Terry Tyson (Toledo Metro Golf Association) tied for first place in the Super Senior Division with rounds of 74 (+3).
The next Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series event is the Stroke Play #4 at Portage Country Club on August 8th.
