On one of the hottest days of the season thus far, Zach Glassman was the hottest man on the golf course.
In the Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series Stroke Play #2 at Quail Hollow Country Club, Glassman used a 3-under par start through five holes ]to post a tournament best round of 68 (-3) and take first place in the Championship Division.
“I got going early and made a couple of birdies early,” Glassman said. “Made some putts. Golf is a funny game. I have not been playing particularly well and I went back to some of the basics and hit the ball solid.”
Glassman was the only golfer in the Open Division to finish under par for his round.
Nicholas Longano (Kirtland Country Club) and Shaun Kloetzer (NOHIO.GOLF Club) finished tied for second place at 1-over par. Kloetzer won the Stroke Play #1 at Mayfield Country Club.
In the Senior Division, Tom Laubacher (Club Walden) finished as the only other golfer besides Glassman under par. Laubacher finished with a round of 70, good for 1-under par.
“I didn’t really do anything special, just managed my game.” Laubacher said. “My birdies were really short. I maybe had one putt outside of 10 feet. Other than that, it was just keeping the ball in play and managing my game.”
Nick Lambos (Brookside Country Club) finished in second place at even par and Mark Borlin (Silver Lake Country Club) finished in third place at 2-over par.
Rick Merrow (NOHIO.GOLF Club) won the Super Senior Division with a round of 5-over par.
The next Great Lakes Auto Scratch Series event is the R.A. Stranahan Stroke Play #3 at Plum Brook Country Club on July 14.
