On a wild day of golf, five players holed out for eagle-2 on the par-4 fifth hole at The Fairways at Twin Lakes.
The fifth green at The Fairways slopes back-to-front and has a channel in the middle, with steep banks along both sides. Balls hit into the channel anywhere past the hole will funnel to the middle then run down the channel.
Four different teams found the bottom of the cup there — and one team did it twice just for fun!
Chris Plute holed out from 85 yards (from a steep downhill lie through the fairway!) the first time around the 9-hole Twin Lakes track. Then two hours later, playing in the same group, Ty Kovach did the same thing the second time around, but his cup-finder was from 165 yards.
Not to be outdone and playing in the group just behind Kovach, Steve Blackburn Jr. holed out from 100 yards as Kovach looked on from the sixth tee box. Then just for fun, Blackburn’s partner Jimmy Wild hit his shot from 100 yards and put it in on top of Blackburn!
About 40 minutes later, the winning team, Brian Smith and Ryan Stefanski, playing in the final group of the day, holed out to put an exclamation point on their victory, with Smith jarring the shot from 160 yards.
Smith and Stefanski routed the field with an 11-under par score of 59, good for a three shot victory.
The greens at The Fairways at Twin Lakes were spectacular, and the event was beautifully run by Bryan Harvey. Thanks to the course and its staff for another great scramble event!
