Brian Beebe shot an even par 70 to win the A Flight at the Northern Ohio Golf Association’s 2020 Thornhill Financial Stroke Play East at Portage Country Club on Monday, August 10th. Beebe’s solid performance was good for a four-shot victory over Brian Polick.
But the other handicap flights at Portage CC — especially in the Senior Division — also featured some surprisingly low scores.
The B Flight winner’s total wasn’t far behind the A group champ. Mark Hach posted a 2-over par 72 to win by a whopping eight shots in his flight.
Doug Phillips won the C Flight with an 81 and Dan Zinna captured the D Flight with an 82.
In the Senior Divisions, the mid-handicap flights produced some spectacular scoring. (Remember, these are gross scores, not net; once the flights are set, everyone plays at scratch within their flight.)
Steve Schaefer won the Senior A by one shot with a solid 74.
In the Senior B Flight, Michael Demeter posted a strong 71 to win by a tidy seven shots.
Joel Recht won the Senior C Flight with a spectacular 72.
Mike Butler shot a 77 to win the D Flight, and Rick Bock took the E Flight crown with an 81.
Beautiful sunny weather and great greens always seem to bring out the best scores in players…
